Ergot

Painting of eye and half a mouth on golden background 2017. Acrylic and metallic paint on canvas. 30cm x 25cm x 1,5cm

Ergot is a fungus that has historically been used, and still is, to stop bleeding after childbirth. It is also said to be related to the witch hunt in Salem in 1692, where women who ate contaminated food accused other women of witchcraft.
The painting belongs to the series Animated Natures, where I mix stereotypes around women with ecology.
