Video: For all the glory

In this video, I discuss For All the Glory, a series of paintings portraying older women crowned with flowers, symbolising social recognition.

The portraits explore the emotional weight of conforming to other people’s expectations: resentment, dreams set aside, and the grief of realising that playing by the assumed rules did not lead where they had hoped.

The women in this series were not forced to conform; they chose to, believing it was the safest path. But as they look back, they ask themselves if things could have been different. That doubt, in itself, becomes a source of regret.

Through these paintings, I reflect on the weight of experience, the responsibility that comes with age, and the complex emotions of those who sacrificed themselves to make life more pleasant for others.
