Please look at the text above and answer the following questions…
Qstnnr is my first experiment with encrypted text.
It is a questionnaire that presents unintelligible text and asks questions about the sensations it produces.
It is inspired by psychological tests and marketing techniques.
How we react to what we don’t understand says a lot about who we are
When I began experimenting with unintelligible texts, I had been exploring the concept of non-verbal communication applied to written language for some time.
Something like the intention to communicate beyond the message and its design, albeit in an esoteric way, blending ideas from quantum physics (the act of observation changes the observed) with Jung’s collective unconscious. But in this case, it’s a subconscious of written communication.
Since then, I’ve been using encrypted texts as a metaphor for what is hidden and censored. Or as a mirror.
Technical details for the installation:
A4 printed forms.
Pens to fill out the forms.
Drawer to put the filled forms.
Signage and encrypted instructions.
Pedestal.

Events:
The initial version of Qstnnr was created for the Central Saint Martins art symposium at Matt’s Gallery in London in June 2006.
Later, between 2007 and 2012, I put a version on the internet that anonymous visitors filled out and I printed. Emiliano Orosa helped me with the PHP programming for the email.
