That would just be weird

A conversation with Deepa Craig.

Deepa is an artist. We met when both of us were studying art at Central Saint Martins in London, in 2001.

Over the years, we have seen many exhibitions together and spent many hours chatting.

Her philosophy is one of the most interesting I know. We share a love for nature and certain esoteric arts. Both of us are cultural hybrids.

In this video, we discuss the concepts that thread through her work. The relationship nature and culture, chaos and order, and the acceptance of imperfection and vulnerability.

Deepa’s art in the video:

To hold and behold

You look a mess when you open yourself up

Life is a bowl of strawberries

Dead in the gutter

Dear Flora

Narcissus drowning

Nature vs. Culture

We also talk about Matter of priorities (my paintings of angry women), and Calligraphic States I.

This conversation is recorded in Surrey, England, in June 2022.
