Painting of light blue woman with string of pearls laughing with her head tilted.

The Birth of Venus

Slowly I burn my veils

of measure,

of obedience,

the hollow fantasies

that are indifferent to me,

Amelia’s law of agreeableness.

Without calm,

I remove the unnecessary,

the barriers that separate me from the world.

And just as I am,

I laugh.
