The camera of Jonas Mekas

The Flagmeister says that picking up the Bebushka is like picking up the camera of Jonas Mekas. At that exhibition I glimpsed the extension of my ignorance in all that is related to experimental video. I had the same feeling that I had the first time I went to the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid. Everything seemed normal until I saw the dates. And yes, now everybody does it and we have had time to get used to it, but when Mekas did it there weren’t that many.

Yet the exhibition at the Serpentine seemed to lack substance, in part I believe because of what Fiskulturnika said: it is not a place for videos. It’s a kind of work that might not even work in a gallery.

Galleries are intriguing. They have been outdated since conceptual art and we still can’t think of another way of showing what we call art. I can’t think of one either.
